The Ukrainian vertical farming company Smart Oasis is starting the summer of 2023 with the successful piloting of a project to grow its products on an industrial scale. The model proposed by Smart Oasis is considered commercially promising by experts.
The chain of food stores “Silpo” has become the first client, distributor, and innovator for a young startup. The plants are grown in vertical farms located directly on the store area, and they are then sold under the Localista brand. The period between sowing and harvesting is just 30 days.
Freshness of plants
This allows customers to taste fresh plants that are not transported, but are immediately sent from vertical stacked layers to the shelves of the “Silpo” store. Natural taste, smell, freshness – all this is preserved after harvesting, guaranteeing the highest quality.
“This business model is based on our modular vertical farms based on fogponics and CEA, and has approximately four years of ROI,” says Alex Prykhodko, founder and CEO of Smart Oasis, a Ukrainian provider of agricultural technology.
“Silpo” currently grows several types of basil and plans to add other culinary herbs and greens, including arugula, red oak lettuce, and spinach.
Increase operations
In addition to this startup, Smart Oasis is negotiating to support consumer demand in five more regions of Ukraine. Their vertical modular farms can produce 140,000 units per year, and with increased efficiency they expect to increase to 200,000 units.
Smart Oasis has several interesting projects for Ukraine and for partners in the world. Now the company is exploring partnerships with retailers, the hotel industry, and public catering.
“We welcome and motivate newcomers to the agricultural space who can use our vertical growing technology to create new ways to meet local demand,” adds Alex Prykhodko.
